Clean Water

One of the most common causes of serious health problems in less developed countries is the lack of accessible clean drinking water. The demands of water and sanitation within Nigeria, has been challenging due to poor infrastructure, lack of funding, and poor maintenance of existing facilities. The construction, operation and maintenance of amenities for proper water supply in rural areas is an immediate need which cannot be addressed solely by a private organization.

Adazi Ani is an arid community in the Southeastern Nigeria with no rivers or lakes for surface water supply. Consequently, residents depend on rainfall in the rainy season and water supply companies that sell and deliver water to holding tanks for individual families in the dry season.

RCN Clean Water Project

RCN plans on establishing a water bottling plant in Adazi-Ani, Anambra State, to provide purified water for the approximately 100,000 people in the area and neighboring towns. The plant will include a water treatment facility to generate high volumes of potable water using reverse osmosis for purification of water from 700 ft. deep well lined, covered and provided with adequate drainage to provide higher quality water.

This project provides an opportunity for educational programs on water safety methods in homes and good manufacturing practices for other local water bottling plants. The bottled water will be provided free to churches, schools and health centers in the area will and be distributed across Nigeria to generate revenue for financial sustainability of this initiative and its sister programs.
