Epidemiology and Identification of

Infectious Diseases

Infectious disease research has potential for broad application because of its benefits worldwide. Clinicians at RCN treat many patients with complicated infections, and the challenge is escalated due to limited resources and poor infrastructures. Our research focuses on common chronic and acute infections in the region: HIV, TB, hepatitis, STI’s, malaria, and common respiratory and diarrheal infections.

HIV Screening & Data Collection

On September 29, 2012, the RCN staff hosted a Community HIV Screening Event in the city of Nnewi in Anambra State, Nigeria. They registered and screened over 50 eager individuals and provided education on HIV transmission, prevention and management. Participants came from various occupational backgrounds, which included businessmen, students, traders and civil servants. Education emphasized the importance of routine follow up with a healthcare provider to maintain up to date and accurate medical records. The data collected helps RCN staff gain a better understanding of HIV prevalence and social practices in the community.
